McFadden Doubles Up At Timmis

After getting the better of Jock Goodyer in a photo finish in the Preliminary Feature on Friday night, current Australian Champion James McFadden doubled up on Saturday as he won the Waters Whiskey Sprintcar Scorcher at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway.

For a majority of the 35-lap finale it appeared that McFadden would have to settle for the runner-up position as he trailed race leader Thomas Meseraull by over three seconds, but a late race caution erased the Americans substantial lead and with six laps to go McFadden made an aggressive pass in turn three that forced Meseraull off the rubbered up racing line. Meseraull would hold onto second, his best result during his Australian Tour, while Lockie McHugh completed the podium.

Following his car destroying crash in turn three on night 1, Luke Storer bounced back finishing fourth, rewarding the Michael Miller led Perrett Family Racing Team for their efforts in putting a back up car together overnight. Opening night’s runner up Jock Goodyer finished fifth ahead of Jordyn Charge, New Zealander Max Guilford, Brendan Quinn, Parker Scott and Matt Egel.

For Guilford his seventh placed result was a major improvement from the opening night where he damaged his powerplant requiring an engine change for night 2.

Jackson Delamont, Jacob Smith, Ben Morris, Will Carroll, Randy Morgan, Corey Sandow and Justin Morris completed the finishers. Rookie Hayden Vickers, who was a late nomination on Saturday in his LS powered #SA98 following the rain out at Horsham, and Broken Hill resident Brendan Guerin failed to finish the finale. Up until the A-main event Guerin had enjoyed a great weekend having finished fourth on Friday and qualifying for the top 6 Shootout on Night 2.

Ash Cook was a scratching on Saturday night following a scary methanol fire during the opening round of heats on Friday.

The format for the weekend included Time Trials, two rounds of heats and a 30-lap final on Friday with a further heat for all drivers on Saturday, a top 6 time trial and the 35-lap Scorcher A-main.

The night kicked off with Time Trials with Portland’s Luke Storer topping the charts ahead of Guerin, McHugh and McFadden.

Heat winners on Friday included McHugh, McFadden, Carroll and Meseraull. The top 10 in the Preliminary A-main were McFadden, Goodyer, McHugh, Guerin, Quinn, Meseraull, Charge, Scott, Ben Morris and Morgan. During the main event both Storer and Carroll rolled, both at the turn 3-4 end of the Speedway.

Saturday night saw Quinn and Meseraull each take a heat win while Storer secured the pole for the final after topping the top 6 Time Trial with a lap of 12.704 ahead of Meseraull, McHugh, McFadden, Goodyer and Guerin.

BLOMELEY, MCCARTHY, DOLIC AND BURNS BIG WINNERS ON ROSS CRICK MEMORIAL OPENING NIGHT!

Jayden Blomely was a jubilant victor in the first round of the Southern Street Stock Series, South Australian Jack McCarthy scored the “W” in the Wingless Sprint A-Main, Tahlea Dolic wrapped up the Modified Sedans feature race and Ryan Burns scored success in the Top Stars Junior Sedans big dance in last night’s Ross Crick Memorial season opener at B&S Earthworks Timmis Speedway Mildura.

Interim track curator Brock Gates did a fantastic job stepping in for Darren McCarthy and the Timmis surface was right on the money for the first night of what may well be Timmis Speedway’s biggest season yet.

An excellent field of 27 “Streeties” entered the first night of the WK Posi Track Hire Southern Street Stock Series and it was Jayden Blomely who timed his run to perfection by getting by “Hulksmash” Shane Roycroft who led for the majority of the race.

A late race incident in turn four in the 30-lap A-Main caused an eventual declaration of what had until that point been a thrilling with the checkers falling on lap 27 and Blomely becoming a jubilant winner.

Malcolm Crick also presented Jayden with the prestigious Ross Crick Memorial Trophy in recognition of his efforts to best the 27-car field.

Roycroft placed second ahead of Jayden Edwards in third followed by Phil Watson fourth and Thomas Garner rounding out the top five.

Coming home behind the top five were Zack Yeoman, Matt Brooks, Darren Flatman, Matt LePoidevin, Jaidyn Ruhs, Jared Wilkinson, Jack Littlehales and Bryan Brown.

DNF’s were Nigel Reichstein, Drew Flatman, Morris Ahearn, Patrick Hall, Curtis Brown, Wayne Kirley and Miller Throckmorton.

South Aussie Jack McCarthy kicked off his assault on the 2024/2025 AWSR Australian Wingless Sprint Championship with a stout victory in the A-Main – a result and track time that will go a long way to his attempt to win A1 in March when the National title comes to Timmis.

McCarthy led home Sydney young gun Andrew Sayre (an impressive result on debut in Mildura) in second, South Aussie Rylan Furler third, Junee NSW’s Brad McCarthy fourth and South Aussie Jesse Alexander fifth for one of his best results in Mildura.

Trailing the top five home were Michael Spoljaric, Mark Blyton, Keke Falland, John Egan, Harley Alexander, Andrew Seery, Michael Conlan, Jason Bolitho, Melissa McMillan, Andrew Van Damme and Jordan Bolitho.

DNF’s were Brock Bolton, Hayden Vickers, Andy Thomas and Kaitlin Vickers.

Taleah Dolic picked up her second main event win in 2024 (she won the final night of last season) in the Modified Sedan feature race to lead home Angelo Halacas in second, Benny Aworth in third and Nathan Thorne rounding out the top four.

Ryan Burns and Jayden Garner swapped the lead back and forth in a spirited battle for supremacy with Burns eventually triumphing to score victory in the Junior Sedans Top Stars main event.

Garner placed second ahead of Brodie Reichstein in third, Bree McAlister fourth, Seth Greig fifth, Mayson Cadd sixth and James Becker rounding out the top seven.

A strong field of Vintage Rods also put on some spirited demonstration laps on the night.

The next event at B&S Earthworks Timmis Speedway Mildura is slated for Saturday night, October 26 with the first round of the new Knox Fabrication Mildura Modified Series, the Owen Portable Homes F500 Stampede Series, the Koch Fertiliser Jr F500 Stampede Series, Lightning Sprints, Wingless Sprints and the first round of the JSSA Junior Sedan Series.
